The Box Commons is an independent standards body for AI credentialing. We believe AI accountability requires the same institutional rigor as any other industry: transparent standards, third-party certification, and governance no single company controls.
Our governance follows the Forest Stewardship Council model — three chambers (AI industry, civil society, academic/research) each holding equal voting weight, ensuring standards serve everyone.
Our founding patent portfolio is pledged royalty-free to the standards ecosystem. Standards must never become toll booths.
We are building toward ANSI accreditation and alignment with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework. Independent, auditable, technology-agnostic.
The Box Commons is currently in formation. We are assembling a founding board with representation from AI industry, civil society, and academic research — the three chambers that will govern our standards process.
